Man Killed in Police Involved Shooting

Police shot and killed a man in the Bronx, who was holding a knife and a toy gun.

Officers performing a wellness check on the 31-year-old man on Pratt Avenue were threatened by a knife and what they thought was a real gun.

“The officers asked the male if the gun was real and ordered him to drop it, explaining and adding ‘we don’t want to hurt you’,” Chief of Department Carlos Gomez said.

The man refused to drop the knife and gun, causing police to use a Taser on him.  Two officers opened fire, striking and killing the man.

No officers were injured.  The man’s identity hasn’t been released.

This was the first police involved shooting caught on police body cameras in New York City.
