Subway Terror Suspect to Be Arraigned

Terror suspect Akayed Ullah could be arraigned as soon as Wednesday.

Ullah is facing federal charges, including use of a weapon of mass destruction, after an explosion at a subway station at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.  Authorities said he had been planning the attack for weeks.

“As thousands came into New York City through Port Authority, the Port Authority bus terminal, one man came with a hate-filled heart and an evil purpose,” Acting U.S. Attorney Joon Kim said.

Authorities said Ullah chose the location and timing of the explosion to try and maximize the damage.  The homemade bomb did not properly detonate though, and while a handful of people were injured, Ullah was the only one to suffer serious injuries.

A search of Ullah’s Brooklyn apartment was conducted on Monday.  Inside, authorities found materials consistent with making a bomb.
