The NYPD arrested one of the two women suspected in a June 21st mugging that left an 85-year-old man writhing in pain on a Brooklyn sidewalk with a broken hip.
Police officials told the New York Daily News that Rachel Gordon and Geneva Johnson allegedly knocked Vernon Forsythe to the ground and robbed him as he walked from his Brownsville home to the corner grocery store. Johnson is in police custody.
The assailants made off with the 85-year-old's wallet which contained $20.00 in cash and a senior citizens metro card. A Good Samaritan found the octogenarian laying in the road and called EMT's to assist the man.
Forsythe's son in law said the elderly man is able to get around with the use of a walker and wheelchair and added, "He's still sharp as a whip. He doesn't talk about the attack. He has a strong wife, a strong family around him, so he's good."
Because of the age of her victim, Geneva Johnson has been charged with a hate crime and is being held on $15,000 bail.
The NYPD is still looking for Rachel Gordon.
