MTA Speeds Up Some Subway Trains

The MTA has increased the speed limit at 26 new locations around the system, as part of an effort to get the trains moving faster.

“By meticulously examining places where trains can go faster safely, we are bringing tangible daily benefits to our customers.  As always, I commend all of our workers who are working so hard to improve the lives of our customers,” NYC Transit President Andy Byford said in a statement

This is in addition to 20 other speed limits that were raised or eliminated earlier in the winter.

The MTA has been evaluating more than 100 locations where trains could potentially go faster. Officials said major incidents are down 50 percent and on-time performance has improved by 32 percent across the system.
