High Speed Crash Leaves Driver Dead, Two Passengers Injured

19-year-old Claudio Poggy was killed when he lost control of the Mercedes he was driving and slammed into a tree on Kings Highway and Avenue D in Brooklyn.

Police at the crash site believe the vehicle could have been traveling at 130 mph, noting that the speedometer was stuck at that speed after the crash.

Witnesses of the wreak say the Mercedes was drag racing another car at the time of the crash. The other vehicle has not been identified.

Two other passengers were in the luxury sedan. An unidentified 16-year-old who suffered critical injuries was rushed to Brookdale Hospital. A 19-year-old who was taken to Kings County Hospital to have minor injuries treated.

An article published in the New York Daily News claimed the Mercedes was not registered so the owner of the car has not been notified.

Police have not released whether or not alcohol was involved in the crash.
