The NYPD's Special Victims Child Abuse Squad is investigating the death of eight-month-old Amelie Belle Perez after she died from being left unattended in the bathtub by her 23-year-old mother.
The child who was found face down in the bathtub by her mother was rushed to Montefiore Children's Hospital on July 3 and lingered in critical condition until her death on July 15th.
According to an article published in the New York Daily News, the child's mother told first responders that she had left the baby alone in the tub with the water running for "a couple of minutes" before she came back into the bathroom and found the in distress.
Police records show that the mother was attempting to revive the baby when they arrived at the home.
The New York Medical Examiner's office ruled the death a homicide last week but police have yet to make an arrest.
