For the second time in less than two months, a female corrections officer assigned to Rikers Island has been attacked and sexually assaulted while on duty.
Elias Husamudeen, president of the Correction's Officer Benevolent Association told the New York Daily News "The completely naked inmate ran into the housing area where the female officer was stationed and tried to pull her pants off." Husamudeen added, "Fortunately, two other CO's were able to intercede and pull the assailant off, saving her from being raped and possibly killed.
Department Of Corrections spokesperson, Jason Kersten released a statement that read. "Thankfully, other officers were present and able to intervene in this incident and prevent any serious injuries. We have zero-tolerance for violent behavior towards our officers and civilian staff and we are pursuing re-arrest of the detainee with the Bronx District Attorney."
The inmate identified in the attack was already in jail for attempted rape.
