Giants Owner Backs Eli, Hopes Daniel Jones “Never Sees The Field”

New York Giants owner John Mara made his support for Eli abundantly clear yesterday saying—well, pretty much what I said—that he thinks the Number Six overall pick in the draft this past April, QB Daniel Jones, shouldn’t play at all this year.

Mara told reporters that the ideal situation would be for Jones to not take one snap during the 2019 NFL season and that he is pulling for Manning to have an outstanding season to facilitate that.

“I hope Eli has a great year and Daniel never sees the field,” Mara said. “I mean, that’d be in an ideal world, you’d like to see that.”

And I am guessing Giants head coach Pat Shurmur feels the same, as he was quick to pump the proverbial brakes last week on any potential quarterback controversy after Jones went a perfect 5-5 with a TD pass in his lone series against Jets this past Thursday.

He sees the big picture as well.

And that picture has Eli playing mentor to Jones this year, and, who knows, maybe even playing in February this year as well.
