The New York State Police were called to the Upstate home of Arlene Renna after her husband found her mauled to death by the family's coonhounds.
The 67-year-old Pleasant Valley, New York, resident was pronounced dead after police investigated the scene and found her wounds consistent with a dog attack.
An American Kennel Club spokesperson told the New York Post, coonhounds are normally "sweet, mellow, and sociable animals."
Renna's husband John took to social media to pay tribute to his wife of 21-years saying, "Arlene was the kindest, most gentle, giving and wonderful woman, there was no better mother, or grandmother. Everything she did she did for others. People like Arlene can never be replaced; they can only live in our hearts forever."
New York State Police investigators do not know what prompted the attack but found no evidence of foul play.
The Dutchess County SPCA and a judge will decide what will happen to the coonhounds.
