Apple Watch Saves Granny With Heart Condition

Marie Bourque got an Apple Watch as a gift from her grandchildren and now she credits it with saving her life. The 74-year-old Queens, New York woman woke up in the middle of the night to her smartwatch buzzing to alert her she had an irregular heartbeat. She got herself to the hospital, which saved her from a potential heart attack or stroke.

The grandmother has the heart condition Atrial fibrillation and her cardiologist Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum says the watch is “a wonderful screening tool” for a lot of people. According to a new study, patients can use the devices with 84% accuracy to determine if they’re having the potentially deadly heart rhythm issues.

And for this grandma, the prospect of a stroke isn’t weighing on her like it used to. Bourque says, “I can sleep better at night now.”
