Hospital’s Entire Staff Surprised With Free Vacations

Thousands of employees at a hospital in New York City have received a well-deserved surprise for their hard work fighting the coronavirus. Over 4-thousand staff members at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst got the good news that they’re being treated to a complimentary three-night vacation, courtesy of Hyatt Hotels and American Airlines.

Elmhurst is a public hospital in Queens and was called “the center of the crisis” by the city’s health department in March. They’ve increased their intensive care unit capacity by 500% during the pandemic and now they’re being rewarded for their efforts.

Everyone from doctors and nurses to facilities and food service teams are getting a trip, which they can use for destinations in the U.S. and the Caribbean “to help them recharge and reconnect with their loved ones” once they’re able to. Robert Isom, president of American Airlines, says, “We hope that the time away will help them and their loved ones recharge and that they feel our deepest appreciation for their sacrifice and heroism.”
