Mayor Adams Backs Off Plan To House Migrants At Gracie Mansion

Mayor Eric Adams says he won’t be using Gracie Mansion as a shelter for migrants, after previously saying he would welcome some into the people’s house.

“There seems to be some legal issues with that. The law department looked at it and we are never going to break the law,” Adams said.

The mayor said his offer was just “symbolism.” He said good generals lead from the front, so he was showing a willingness to open Gracie Mansion.

Mayor Adams has suggested a plan where the city would compensate New Yorkers for providing shelter to migrants.
