Lowry: Why It's Now Too Late to Even Dream of Replacing Biden

The cries to replace Joe Biden at the top of the 2024 Democrat ticket for President have only amplified in the wake of the Hur Report, which portrayed Biden as too feeble and forgetful to be responsible for his mishandling of classified documents. Is it too late for Joe Biden to reverse the damage done by the report, and is it too late for him to step aside for the 2024 election? Rich Lowry is the editor-in-chief of The National Review; he appeared on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program to explain why Biden should have done what’s right for the country last year.

“You would think, if you’re the White House, and [Biden’s] been lied about, and in a disgraceful way that’s misleading the public and hurting his political prospects, you just release the transcripts,” Lowry told Berman and Larry Mendte, sitting in for Riedel. “You’d want to do it and see just how sharp he was. Of course, they don’t want to do that for obvious reasons. According to Hur… even if you listen to the tapes of Biden’s interview with his ghost writer in 2017, he was kind of fuzzy, so, look- it’s not his fault he’s old, but I think he should have done the responsible thing last year and said he’s not going to run again.”

Yet, to all the dreamers left and right who envision Biden seeing the light of reason and finally stepping away, Lowry says don’t hold your breath. “He’s President of the United States, and none of the rest of us are, right, so he has reason to think he’s smarter than the rest of us, right? And he’s wanted it forever, and Jill’s the one person who I think can say, ‘Honey, you know, sorry, we can’t do this anymore,’ but she’s not going to say it either… A lot of my friends on the right are totally convinced he’s going to be switched out, and it’s Michelle Obama, but I think unless, absent something terrible happening that makes it impossible, I think he’ll be the nominee.”
