Legendary Yankees Announcer John Sterling Retires

Yankees announcer John Sterling has retired immediately from the broadcast booth after 36 years with the team.

"I am a very blessed human being," the 85-year-old Sterling said in a statement.

He was known for his signature homerun and "Yankees win" calls. Sterling was behind the microphone for the five most recent World Series championship teams.

"John informed and entertained, and he exemplified what it means to be a New Yorker with an unapologetic and boisterous style that exuded his passion for baseball, broadcasting and the New York Yankees," the team said in a statement.
